The Realm of the Burning Sands is a desert warrior kingdom of approximately 850,000 souls, built on honour, strength, and the mastery of sandship combat across Eshara's burning interior. From the carved sandstone capital to the frontier fortress of Duneswatch, the kingdom has endured through martial tradition and the iron will of its rulers.
But King Theron Val'Shaar is aging and his grip weakens. Crown Prince Kashar is untested. General Salthorne Vex quietly assembles an independent military force at Port of Scardhaven. The Obsidian Syndicate criminal network grows bolder. A slave rebellion brews in the Silversands mines. The kingdom that was built by the sword may soon be torn apart by the ambitions it created.
Three forces converge on the throne of the Burning Sands. General Vex builds an army at Scardhaven with wealth from unofficial trade. Lady Isadora manoeuvres her bloodline into position from within the court. Crown Prince Kashar, idealistic but untested, represents a future the warrior nobility may not accept. Meanwhile, Malik Sand-Speaker's prophecies draw thousands of followers with visions of a throne that “crumbles from within.” Captain Rashida's sandship fleet — forty vessels and the kingdom's most mobile military asset — remains uncommitted, and every faction knows that whoever wins the fleet wins the realm.
Capital city carved from living sandstone. The Throne of Sands sits at its heart, surrounded by warrior academies, grand bazaars, and the Obsidian Syndicate's hidden warrens.
Northern frontier fortress monitoring the approaches to the Necropolis of Endless Sands. A military garrison that doubles as a trade waypoint for caravans braving the deep desert.
The kingdom's coastal gateway. A bustling port where sandships are refitted for sea trade and foreign goods flow into the interior. General Vex's influence grows strongest here.
A vast mining operation extracting precious metals and gems from the desert. Over thirty thousand workers toil in conditions that blur the line between employment and servitude.
The Aging Sovereign
Once the greatest warrior in the realm, Theron is failing. His body weakens, his mind wanders, and the kingdom he built through strength of arms now requires a kind of leadership he never learned — diplomacy, compromise, succession planning.
The Untested Heir
Young, idealistic, and dangerously naive. Kashar believes in reforming the kingdom's warrior traditions, but has never fought a real battle or navigated court politics. The nobles see him as malleable; Vex sees him as removable.
Commander of Scardhaven
Assembling a private military force at Port of Scardhaven with wealth from 'unofficial' trade agreements. Vex is patient, calculating, and has never publicly declared ambition — which makes him far more dangerous than any open rival.
The Shadow Queen
Theron's second wife and the true power behind recent court decisions. She manoeuvres to ensure her bloodline inherits, playing nobles against each other with devastating precision.
Desert Prophet
A wandering holy man whose prophecies about the kingdom's future have drawn thousands of followers. His visions speak of a 'storm that walks' and a throne that 'crumbles from within.'
Sandship Fleet Commander
Commands the kingdom's fleet of forty sandships — wind-powered vessels that traverse the deep desert. Rashida's loyalty is to the fleet, not any particular claimant, making her the most valuable ally in any succession conflict.
King Theron collapses during a public audience. As word spreads, General Vex mobilises forces at Scardhaven while Crown Prince Kashar scrambles to secure the capital. The party must choose sides — or find a way to prevent civil war.
The Obsidian Syndicate has been smuggling weapons into the Silversands mines, arming workers for a slave rebellion. The party discovers the plot and must decide whether to report it, aid the rebellion, or use the information as leverage.
A sandship fleet encounters something impossible in the deep desert — ruins emerging from beneath the sand that match no known civilisation. Captain Rashida hires the party to investigate before Vex's forces arrive to claim whatever lies within.
Lady Isadora approaches the party with evidence that General Vex is negotiating with the Necropolis of Endless Sands. If true, the alliance could make Vex unstoppable — but Isadora's motives are never simple.
Malik Sand-Speaker's latest prophecy names a specific date when the 'throne will shatter.' The prophecy spreads like wildfire and every faction scrambles to position themselves. The party is caught between true believers and those who would silence the prophet permanently.
